Meta Verified Is A New Paid-For Option For Facebook And Instagram

Meta has announced a new verification system that can be paid for and will apply to both Instagram and Facebook.

The new feature was announced by Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, with users able to pay to become Meta Verified and receive a number of features in return.

We’re testing Meta Verified, a new subscription bundle that includes account verification with impersonation protections and access to increased visibility and support.

Those features include a verified badge that shows a person has been verified using their government ID. They’ll also benefit from account monitoring for impersonators, while real support from real people will also be offered for account issues.

Notably, Meta Verified will also increase visibility and reach, “with prominence in some areas of the platform like search, comments, and recommendations.”

The Meta Verified program will only be available in Australia and New Zealand initially, with pricing starting at $11.99 on the web and $14.99 per month on iOS and Android. The price difference is likely to be related to the in-app purchase payments that Meta will have to pay to Google and Apple.

There’s no word yet on when the Meta Verified program will be available internationally but Meta will no doubt want to ensure that everything works as expected before opening the doors to more paying customers.

This Meta Verified program follows Twitter Blue, Twitter’s paid-for feature that gives users a blue tick for $8 per month.
